Our district introduced us to Handwriting Without Tears back in 2005, and I fell in love with it instantly after attending a Professional Development class. I was so impressed with the neatness of the student writing that I was hooked! It was something I needed in my classroom.
We were lucky enough to purchase the chalkboards for the “Wet-Dry-Try method,” mats and wood pieces, printing books, journal books, and chart paper. Eventually, like most districts hit by the economy, we didn’t have money left to purchase the writing paper, which to me, is the most crucial part of the program.
I began to create my own paper and it became such a hit. Over the years, I’ve developed paper for all holidays, thematic units, and so much more. We use it daily in my class for our journal writing, essays, the writing process, and so much more!
