Classroom Jobs and a FREEBIE

I'm a huge believer that all students in my class should have a special job.  It teaches them responsibility and gives them some ownership to the classroom.  Plus, I'm not their momma and I don't love cleaning up after others!  I assign enough jobs for the entire class.
I typically have 2 kiddos per job so that in case someone is absent, there is someone to do the job.  Plus, the first person teachers the second person how to do the job.  This will save you at the beginning of the year, I promise!!!

  • I used a piece of poster board and glued the chevron pockets {from Lakeshore} onto the poster.  I laminated the entire poster and then used scissors to cut slits on the pocket so the popsicle sticks fit.  My poster board faded because I left it in my car when I was schlepping things from school back to my garage, so I made it pretty with some washi tape.
  • I have numbered popsicle sticks {colored sticks from Michaels} in the past.  Since my eyesight feels like it's going at the ripe old age of 33, I'm going to try and glueing my kiddos' faces on the tops of the sticks.

I created labels using Avery 5161.
Just print the PDF if you these work for you.  If you want to edit them, download the Word Document and the KG Pineapple Delight font {it's free for classroom use}.  You should be able to put the labels in your printer and just print away!  Just grab the labels here!

My name is Kristen and I’ve enjoyed teaching kindergarten, first grade, a 1/2 combo, and second grade.  I’ve taught at both a low and high-performing Title I schools as well as a few fancy schools in California and O’ahu, Hawaii. I’ve earned my Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in reading in addition to my Reading Specialist Certificate.  When I am not teaching my scholars or other educators at Professional Development classes, I  enjoy creating materials to share with my colleagues, organizing family literacy events, and giving workshops on ways to make Literacy Workshop effective and engaging.
