Working on my classroom transformation

I was fortunate to get hired in a new district the day school started.  So I had 4 days to get my room together.  Lots of late nights, caffeine, and lunch breaks to keep me going.  Couldn't have done it without my boyfriend and family.
Future library, computer, listening center, and word wall
Future writing wall

Future calendar area, math, social studies, and science wall
My desk area and future guided reading area
Loved fadeless paper in hot pink!
Clip-up chart from Where the Wild Things Learn on TPT  for just 75 cents!

Love an ocean-themed library.  Still need to sort books by genre and eventually reading level
Love my desk caddies from Michael's.  They were just 3 bucks and a good break from the primary colors.
I use plastic cups from Walmart to put student pencils and scissors in.  It's a great way to stay organized.  On the other side of the hand sanitizer are glue sticks and dry-erase markers.
Can't stand students looking through pencil boxes, so I've always used desk caddies.  It teaches students to work together and share.  I hot glued ribbon from Michal's around the caddy.  These little tags were on sale for a buck, for 10.  I wrote the table letter on it. You can buy 2 white organizing trays for a buck at Walmart.  I put crayons in them.  I've got 6 kiddos per table and 2 crayon trays.  I could probably get away with just 2 but will end up buying another to make 3!

Love my table point system using letters and clothes pins.  Find out more about it here!

My name is Kristen and I’ve enjoyed teaching kindergarten, first grade, a 1/2 combo, and second grade.  I’ve taught at both a low and high-performing Title I schools as well as a few fancy schools in California and O’ahu, Hawaii. I’ve earned my Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in reading in addition to my Reading Specialist Certificate.  When I am not teaching my scholars or other educators at Professional Development classes, I  enjoy creating materials to share with my colleagues, organizing family literacy events, and giving workshops on ways to make Literacy Workshop effective and engaging.
